Quilling or Paper Filigree By Barbara Din Quilling or Paper Filigree is an art that has existed for over 500 years. It's name comes from the word “quill”, around which paper strips were coiled, giving the resulting pieces varied shapes that would later become part of a design. Though its true origin is unknown, religious orders from Europe used the technique in the XVII and XVIII centuries to ornate their icons.
